Bhubaneswar: Odisha reported 329 new active Covid-19 cases from 7,309 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
The state Health Department on Wednesday also reported the death of another Covid-19 patient taking the toll due to the infection to nine this year. The victim has been identified as a 48-year-old man from Sambalpur district, who had diabetes mellitus and hypertension.
On the other hand, the test positive rate (TPR) dropped to 4.5 per cent from 5.14 per cent on the previous day, which saw 291 fresh infections. It is worth noting that Odisha has been witnessing a decline in the Covid-19 graph since April 28 when 573 cases – the highest daily Covid-19 caseload this year – were detected.
However, the decline in the number of infections and TPR notwithstanding, Odisha with 4,369 cases is among the top-three states fuelling the active tally of India.
Kerala tops the list with 9,014 cases, while Maharashtra is in the third spot with 3,351 cases.
It is interesting to note that most of the active cases in the state have been reported from Sundargarh, Cuttack, Nabarangpur, Sambalpur, and Nuapada districts. A recent report said that districts bordering Chhattisgarh are also witnessing a surge in new Covid-19 cases.
So far, Odisha has registered 9,072 cases since March 17 this year, while 42 patients have been hospitalised.
