Bhubaneswar: Low pressure area over North coastal Odisha and adjoining Gangetic-West Bengal is expected to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall in Odisha. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed due to the low pressure area in the bay, Odisha will witness rains till August 19.
“Associated cyclonic circulation now extends upto 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards with height. It is very likely to become more marked during next 24 hours,” the IMD stated.
Southwest monsoon has been active over Odisha. Light to moderate rainfall has occurred at most places over the districts of Odisha with heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack & Dhenkanal and heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Kalahandi, Sundargarh, Angul, Bargarh, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda & Boudh of Odisha.
“During the next five days, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the State. Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast till 16th August,” the IMD warned.
