Odisha: Main Accused In Sohela Firing Incident Arrested

**Bargarh:** The main accused in the July 24 Sohela firing case of Bargarh district in which a youth was critically injured, was arrested from a rented house in Sambalpur’s Hirakud area today.

The arrested person has been identified as Ashwini Suna. One country-made pistol, five-rounds of live ammunition, one motorcycle and two rounds of fired cartridge were seized from his possession.

Notably on July 24, Ashwini along with two other associates had opened fire at the Sohela daily market and later went absconding from the spot.

One Satyanarayan Dash was grievously injured in the firing and was admitted to VIMSAR in Burla for treatment. Later, when his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

Dash’s brother filed a complaint with the police following which a special team was constituted to apprehend the accused persons.

Following a tip-off, the team arrested Ashwini today morning in connection with the incident.

The investigation reveals that on Rath Yatra, some acquaintances of one Mana Majhi had assaulted Ashwini’s brother, Moti Suna. Moti had sustained serious injuries in the attack.

Vowing to avenge the attack on his brother, Ashwini had executed the firing at Sohela daily market on July 24 in an attempt to eliminate Mana Majhi. However, the plan backfired as the bullet hit an innocent bystander Satyanarayan Dash.

While there were speculations of political involvement in the case, Bargarh SP Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo has refuted all such connections.

“We are currently organizing raids to apprehend the other two accused persons in the case,” Bhamoo said.
