Sonepur: A man was held and thrashed by locals in Patrapali village under Biramaharajpur police limits while attempting child theft here late last night after he was caught trying to escape the village with a three-year-old.

The child Debraj was sleeping with his parents in a cot outside the house, when Tarani Biswal of Khairajhirdi village under Bheden police limits tried to take him away. Just as he was escaping, the child started crying following which the parents woke up.
