**Cuttack:** After assessment by the Executive Committee of Medical Council of India (MCI), the body has decided to recommend the Central Government to increase the MMBS seats in SCB Medical College and Hospital, the State’s oldest and premier medical college, from 100 to 250.
A team of MCI had visited the college on May 29 and again on July 6 and 7 to review the health-care and teaching facilities in order to prepare an assessment report.
“The Executive Committee of the Medical Council of India considered assessment reports and decided to recommend to the Central government for recognition/approval of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack for the award of MBBS degree granted by Utkal University against the increased intake from 150 to 250 seats,” stated the letter written to the Secretary of Ministry of Family and Health Welfare by MCI.
The permission has been granted for five years after which it has to be renewed. Failure of timely renewal of the permission will lead to stoppage of admissions in the undergartuate course, added the letter.
The recommendations were approved by the Oversight Committee.
