Bhubaneswar: The effect of mobile phone radiation on human health is a subject of interest and study worldwide, as a result of the enormous increase in mobile phone usage throughout the world. To counter it in a cost effective way, a young 17-yr-old scientist in Bhubaneswar has invented anti-radiation flip covers for mobile phones.

Meet Ayush Acharya of Bhubaneswar who used age old traditional ingredients to chalk out the cheapest anti-radiation mobile flip cover. He has used bel leaves and proved that it has the capacity to absorb harmful radiation to a large extent.

"I had conducted a small survey regarding the effect of radiation on people. Then I decided to create something which would absorb the harmful radiation and help people to use their gadgets without any worry. The main challenge was to make it cheap. I tried many leaves for my experiment but failed. Then I used bel leaf known for its medicinal and religious purpose. It clicked. This cover would hardly cost Rs 100 per piece which is easily affordable," Ayush blurted out happily.

He had notched the first prize LG Innovation event conducted in Gujarat early this year.

"It boosted my confidence when I was able to present my project and was adjudged the best among many other well known personalities in this field," said the budding scientist.

He had constant support of his parents and sister at home, and friends and teachers at school. He conducted numerous experiments using different layers of bel leaves in cold lamination and hot lamination. And finally succeeded in making a flip cover which results in less radiation emission.

"Rajashree ma'am in school always encouraged me and I was constantly supported by friends and family in my endeavour. It things go right, this invention can be produced in large quantities in  customised manner for public use within a span of 4 years. It is biodegradable, affordable and eco friendly," he informed.
