Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, miscreants allegedly killed a migrant worker from Odisha in Tamil Nadu. Now, the family of the deceased is unable to get his body as alleged middlemen are demanding Rs 15,000 from them to release the body.
The deceased has been identified as Sharat Parichaa, a resident of Adaba police limits in Odisha’s Gajapati district. He had left home for Tamil Nadu some eight months ago.
According to reports, Sharat’s family was informed about his death through a WhatsApp call early this week. One of his relatives received a call on Sunday last and showed an injured Sharat. Later, the caller sent his family photographs of Sharat’s dead body and claimed that he had been killed.
However, the deceased’s family members did not believe the news of Sharat’s death and his brother informed the police about the incident. He urged the police to trace Sharat’s whereabouts in Tamil Nadu.
According to Adaba police, they have received a complaint in this regard and asked the deceased’s family not to send any money to the account number shared with them by the caller from Tamil Nadu till the investigation is completed.
According to Gajapati District Labour Officer Loknath Panda, Sharat’s family has not been able to share details regarding where Sharat resided in Tamil Nadu or where he was employed.
“I already have spoken to the Adaba IIC and asked him to inform us when the police can bring Sharat’s body home,” Panda added.
