Bhubaneswar: A total of 58,164 theft cases, 12,607 robberies, 6,977 murders, 54,789 motor vehicle accidents and 26,354 suicides have been registered in Odisha in the last five years between 2018 and 2022, informed Minister of State for Home Tusharkanti Behera in the Odisha Assembly on Monday.
The Minister shared the information in a written reply to a query by Congress MLA from Jatni Suresh Kumar Routray.
The Minister attributed the marked increase in the reporting of crimes in the State during the last five years to transparent registration of cases, education and awareness, proper implementation of the government’s 5T initiative and ‘Mo Sarkar’, zero tolerance of police towards crimes against women, rise in population and increase in registration of industrial cases.
Behera pointed out this also shows strong faith in the justice administration process among the victims.
Under the ‘Mo Sarkar’ scheme feedback is also being collected from people visiting police stations to lodge complaints, Behera added.
Necessary measures are being taken to fill up vacancies through new recruitment and promotions at the earliest, he said.
