Bhubaneswar: Odisha Planning and Convergence Minister Padmanabha Behera today strongly refuted the allegation made by Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Narasingha Mishra with regard to the Western Odisha Development Council (WODC).
Replying to an adjournment motion on “WODC on the path of destruction; State government has shown step-motherly attitude towards the people of western Odisha” moved by senior Congress MLA Narasingha Misra, the Minister told the House that the allegation made by the CLP leader was not true.
The Minister said that ever since the WODC was constituted in 1998 till date, it has received grants totaling Rs 1,562.64 crore from the government.
As per provision laid down in WODC Act 2000, the Odisha government provides an annual grant of Rs 50 crore to the Council, this apart from 2008-09 fiscal onwards the State government has been providing an additional grant of Rs 50 crore, Behera stated.
He pointed out that out of the total grants of Rs 1,562.64 crore received by WODC, Rs 1493.60 crore has been provided to executing agencies for 34,701 projects and added that by the end of October this year 30,333 projects have been completed at an expenditure of Rs 1393.20 crore, 3169 projects are underway and process is on for starting work on 1199 projects.
Giving details of the projects, the Minister told the House that these programmes have resulted in overall development in the areas under the Council.
