Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government has taken serious note of Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha MP Aparajita Sarangi’s blatant flouting of Covid guidelines during her birthday celebration.
Minister of State (Mos) for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra today wrote a letter to his counterpart in the Union Government, MoS for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai drawing the latter’s attention to Sarangi’s irresponsible behaviour endangering lives of the people of Bhubaneswar.
Mishra has enclosed videos of Sarangi’s birthday celebration on Thursday with his letter for Rai’s perusal.
“The video clearly shows Honourable MP surrounded by hundreds of women who are neither wearing masks (except one) nor maintaining social distance and indulging in song and dance with utter disregard to Covid guidelines issued under the National Disaster Management Act and the earnest repeated appeals made by Honourable Prime Minister regarding the same,” wrote Mishra.
The Odisha Minister has said that he would not have brought it to the Union Minister’s notice had this been the first occasion where the MP has blatantly violated Covid guidelines.
Mishra has pointed out that there is no improvement in the behaviour of Sarangi despite repeated advisories, warnings and booking of at least three cases against her for violation of Covid guidelines.
“These irresponsible acts will put her, people near to her and the public at large at grave risk of life,” Mishra added
The Minister has noted that Bhubaneswar city is fighting a serious battle and many Covid Warriors are working night and day to save precious lives while some of the Covid Warriors have also sacrificed their lives.
The Minister has further pointed out that such irresponsible behaviour on the part of a people’s representative will demotivate the Covid Warriors and is an insult to all those who have lost their lives.
And it also sends a completely contradictory message to the people at large especially in the light of Honourable Prime Minister’s repeated messages and his appeal yesterday, he added.
“She is a people’s representative and people look up to her. She is also the national spokesperson of the BJP. It is important that her conduct inspires people to follow the Covid guidelines at this very critical juncture. These are tough times when people have obeyed the lockdown and sacrificed their livelihood,” Mishra said.
To highlight his point, the Minister has stated that 109 persons have lost their lives in Covid and 5 Covid Warriors have sacrificed their lives in the fight against Covid in Bhubaneswar alone.
“In this backdrop, Honourable MP celebrating her birthday in disregard of Covid guidelines makes a complete mockery of the struggles and sufferings that ordinary people are going through,” he lamented.
Mishra has concluded that he was sure that Rai’s good office will bring this to the notice of the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister and advise Sarangi not to endanger the lives of the people of Bhubaneswar.
Worth mentioning, the Bhubaneswar MP’s song and dance videos of her birthday celebration in complete disregard to Covid protocol have gone viral in social media platforms.
