Balasore: Timely intervention by Childline workers and police officials helped cancellation of a minor’s wedding yesterday.

The strange turn of events occurred in Sarangapur village under Bahanaga block of Balasore district.

As per sources, Delanga village’s Sharat Maharana who is an Engineer by profession was all set to the minor yesterday night. The minor was a few months away from turning 18 and reportedly the groom’s side too was aware of the fact.

Local police received a tip-off about the wedding. With a five-member team of Childline workers, Khandapada IIC Sanjay Parida and his team stopped the groom and his family before they could reach the venue. While a few of the groom’s party fled the scene, the police were able to talk sense into the groom. The groom’s party returned without a wedding.

The police and Childline workers reportedly also discussed the drawbacks of marrying an underage girl to which the minor’s family too concurred.
