Odisha: Much-Awaited Bomikhal Flyover Inaugurated By CM Naveen Patnaik
**Bhubaneswar:** Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday inaugurated the Bomikhal (road) over-bridge which connects Rasulgarh with Cuttack Road and Sahid Nagar.
Built at a cost of Rs 44 crore the flyover’s work commenced on March 19, 2012. There are total 75 spans in the bridge which connects NH 203 (Rasulgarh-Bomikhal-Cuttack Road) with Janpath through Maharshi College road in Saheed Nagar.
From Saheed Nagar side the bridge is 89.375 metres long and 134 metres from Rasulgarh and Kalpana sides respectively. The total length of the bridge is 1.5 kilometres.
The public works department, which executed the project, had fixed October 2018 as the deadline for the project in view of the Men’s Hockey World Cup in the city in November. However, deadline was extended and the inauguration was postponed.
While being constructed, this flyover has seen several small and big accidents, a couple of which were fatal. On May 4, 2018, a labourer was killed and another critically injured when a portion of the under-construction flyover caved in.
In another incident on September 10, 2017, one person was killed and at least 15 injured after a span of the under construction Bomikhal over bridge collapsed.
The State Government sprung into action and had scrapped the contract of ‘Panda Infra’ which was constructing the bridge. The Works Department had taken up the construction to its own fold following the two mishaps.
