Odisha Mulling Over Pension To Separated Women

Bhubaneswar: This piece of news is certainly going to bring a little smile in the lives of women undergoing divorce proceedings, in a bid to ameliorate their hardship during the interim period of separation before divorce is finalised, Odisha government is planning to provide them assistance under the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY).

“Single women have been covered under MBPY. Women whose divorce proceedings are underway and are staying separately before pronouncement of formal judgment by the courts do face a lot of hardship. We intend to cover them under MBPY. The department has already framed regulation for the purpose. Applicants have to give a self certificate to the department for consideration of their case,” informed Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Minister, Ashok Chandra Panda to newsmen here today.

The Minister clarified that to calculate the gross family income of the applicant for being eligible under MBPY the income of her in-laws family will not be taken into account.

It may be mentioned here that for one to get covered under MBPY the gross annual income of the applicants should be below Rs 40,000.
