Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday said that it was contemplating to provide compensation to the farmers for their crop loss due to continuous rain caused by a depression over the Bay of Bengal.
Speaking to the media today, state Co-operation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta said that the state government will provide compensation if the paddy is damaged due to the depression-induced rain that is continuing across Odisha since Friday.
“The government has made arrangement to cover the crops at mandis. Hence, there is very less possibility of paddy getting wet at mandis. However, the crops may get sprouted due to rain,” the minister said.
Samanta said that paddy will be procured at mandis after drying up when the rain subsides.
