Bhubaneswar: The new BJP government in Odisha is contemplating measures to curb liquor and narcotics use in the State similar to measures taken by some states in the country.
“At the government level several States have taken measures to close liquor shops and curb the use of narcotics, our government will also try to take similar steps. Our government will also take steps to curb the extensive use of liquor and narcotics in Odisha. We will discuss how Odisha can be made liquor-free,” informed Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Minister Nityananda Gond to reporters here after attending the State-level observance of International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking at the Convention Hall of the Lok Seva Bhavan here today.
Gond said that prohibition is essential for building a healthy society.
“Today the society has degraded, peace and social harmony have been disturbed due to the consumption of liquor and narcotics,” he added.
