Bhubaneswar: New Year is all set to be spoiled as the Regional Meteorological Department has predicted mild rainfall with thunderstorm. In a statement, they added that the cold waves are set to be intense after January 3.
The statement said that districts of Bargarh, Nuapada, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, and Sundargarh are expected to receive mild rainfall accompanied by thunders on January 1. For January 2, the warning has been extended to all districts of north Odisha and Malkangiri, Koraput and adjoining districts of south Odisha.
Rest of the districts of the state will remain dry. Owing to the incoming rain caused by Western disturbance, there has been a slight increase in temperature; however the mercury will further dip post-January 3 caused by North-East winds, said the statement by MeT department.
Coming to freezing temperatures across Odisha, the statement said that on Monday 16 places had temperatures below 10 degree Centigrade with Sonepur having the lowest of 5.4. Apart from that Daringbadi lodged 7.0, Talcher 9.4, Sundargarh 8.5, Sonepur 5.4, Bhawanipatna 9.0, Balangir 8.5, Angul 5.6, Baripada 9.4, Cuttack 9.5 Koraput 9.2, Phulbani 6.3, Balasore 8.5, Titlagarh 6.5, Jharsuguda 8.9, Sambalpur 8.7, and Keonjhar 7.4.
It added that flight services will not be affected as there has been no prediction of foggy conditions.
