Bhubaneswar: Odisha has taken the first place in the production of tuber crops, said Agriculture Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain in reply to a query of Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati in the State Assembly on Wednesday.
Swain stated that has taken second place in the production of brinjal and cabbage, while it has taken fifth place in the production of lady’s finger, tomato, and watermelon.
In the last ten years, the Directorate of Horticulture has distributed a total of 3.64 crores of planting materials of mango, cashew, orange, litchi, coconut, guava, etc. to the farmers and various organizations.
If the farmers manage the crops properly, they can produce 156 quintals of amla per hectare, 166 quintals of guava, 312 quintals of pineapple and 120 quintals of mangoes. The price of these fruits and vegetables depends on the market conditions.
Swain also informed that the yield in the State has increased through horticulture. Between 2015 and 2022, the production of fruits increased by 17 percent, while the production of vegetables increased by 9.4 percent.
