Bhubaneswar: No confirmed case of avian influenza in human being has been detected from Odisha so far, the Directorate of Public Health clarified on Wednesday.
As per an official press release, one person from the culling team, who has ILI symptoms even before the culling started has been isolated, his samples were collected and sent to RMRC Bhubaneswar for diagnosis. He has been provided with treatment dose of Oseltamivir.
Micro and ground level action plan for containing bird-flu in the State has been rolled out in full swing asserted Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling.
After reports of its outbreak in 2 blocks namely Satyabadi and Pipili in Puri district on 23-08-2024 with epicenters at Raichakradharpur and Abalpur respectively; the Rapid Response Team (RRT) swung into action. Samples were collected and put for test.
After confirmation of avian influenza from National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases ( NIHSAD), Bhopal; ground level actions like outbreak investigation, culling and daily surveillance were started immediately by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Sciences as per the ‘Avian Influenza Containment Protocol’ instituted by Government of India.
The outbreak alert was immediately shared with all concerned. The district health team started their operations. Separate micro-plans were prepared and rolled out in these said blocks.
Presently, house to house visit is being done on daily basis for active search of any suspected case of ILI & SARI. The state RRT team has also visited the area.
Daily health checkup of cullers, poultry farm owners and their family members are being done for any symptoms of influenza, and provision of Oseltamivir tablets as preventive therapy. IEC & BCC activities are being carried out. All Swasthya kanthas have been updated in concerned villages.
An isolation ward has been functionalized at Community Health Centre ( CHC), Mangalpur for quarantine of suspected persons.
