Odisha: No Relatives Turn Up For Last Rites Of COVID Positive’s Kin

Berhampur: The COVID-19 pandemic, the fear of being infected with the virus for which there is no certain cure available as yet has reshaped human relationships in unprecedented ways, has made us more selfish to be precise.

There are several reports from across the country of disrespectful disposal of bodies of COVID-19 victims but here is a case of no relatives turning up to cremate the body of a person who died of heart failure out of shock on hearing that his son has tested positive for corona.

As per reports, a popular jeweller of Kabisurya Nagar in Odisha’s Ganjam district tested positive for COVID-19.

On seeing a COVID ambulance turn up at his house and on being informed that his son has tested positive for CoronaVirus and was being shifted to the Parala Maharaja COVID Hospital, the old man identified as Biswanath Nayak collapsed never to rise.

As news spread that the deceased’s son has tested positive for COVID-19 none from his community turned up to take the body to its final resting place-the the cremation ground.

The body lay for hours, as no one turned up for the final rites of the deceased, a teacher of a local private school with the help of a temporary employee of the Kabisurya Nagar NAC and four local youth cremated the body.
