**Choudwar**: After reports of selling a newborn baby girl did the rounds in Jajpur two days back, the Child Welfare Committee knocked the doors of Korai police station to enquire into the matter. Last night, the baby girl was rescued from the house of a couple residing in Choudwar area.
However this is not a case of child-selling, clarified Korai IIC Chinmayee Sahoo.
“On receiving the letter from CWC, we began our investigation and questioned the couple- Chema Nath (father) and Kandhei Nath (mother) of Solabandhi village- that had been accused of selling their girl child,” Sahoo said.
“The girl, who was born on Ganesh Puja, was the fifth daughter to the Nath duo. Due to financial constraints, they handed over their daughter to a couple in Choudwar in order to foster the child,” Sahoo explained.
There was no monetary transaction involved, the IIC reiterated.
The girl is currently undergoing medical examination in Jajpur Road Hospital and will be handed over to the CWC,” Sahoo concluded.
The incident is a flashback to the old way of adoption when babies were handed over for foster care without any paper work. However, CWC’s timely intervention into the case, along with the police investigation, will now help in steering the baby girl’s adoption process in a systematic manner with proper background check of the adoptive parents.
