Cyclonic Circulation To Trigger Heavy Rainfall In Odisha Over Next 48 Hours

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast predicting substantial rainfall across various regions of Odisha within the next 48 hours, attributed to a cyclonic circulation over southern Bangladesh and surrounding territories.

This weather system is expected to bring considerable precipitation, especially to the north and coastal areas of Odisha.

Heavy downpours are likely to occur on Wednesday and Thursday, with isolated areas potentially experiencing extremely heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-35 kmph, are also forecasted.

Also, a thunderstorm alert has been issued for 20 districts in Odisha today and tomorrow, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

The regional weather office has issued a yellow warning for these districts until Thursday. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay alert.

Besides, the IMD has advised fishermen and residents in low-lying areas to avoid venturing into the sea or flooded areas due to the expected adverse weather conditions.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Titlagarh, with a significant 39.0 mm of precipitation. Bhubaneswar followed closely with 37.4 mm of rainfall. Other areas experiencing notable rainfall include Nabarangapur, which received 23.0 mm, and Balangir, which recorded 22.2 mm. Khordha received 12.0 mm of rainfall, while both Chhatrapur and Balasore recorded 10.6 mm each.
