NCRB report

Bhubaneswar: Riding on the Odisha Government’s ‘zero tolerance’ policy on corruption, the State vigilance department acted tough by registering the highest number of disproportionate assets (DA) cases against government servants under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

As per the latest reports of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Odisha vigilance cell registered 85 cases, which is highest in the country. Karnataka came second in the row with 56 cases while Bihar was ranked third by registering 48 DA cases.

The same year, Odisha vigilance registered 118 trap cases and arrested 198 tainted officers while accepting bribes. As many as 551 government servants were charge-sheeted under the Prevention of Corruption Act in 2022.

Similarly, 124 persons were convicted for corruption in the State while 150 government functionaries were acquitted in the year 2022. The same year, the Government dismissed 30 servants from the service in the same year following vigilance case.

Three States like Goa, Nagaland, Tripura seem to be free from corruption as no cases were registered under P.C Act in the year 2022.

In trap cases, Maharastra topped the list with 728 matters and Rajasthan came second with 465 such cases. Madhya Pradesh stood in third position in registering the trap cases of 257.
