Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced an enhanced financial assistance of Rs 30,000 per month for each living Padma awardee, effective from January 2025.
This decision comes in accordance with a notification issued by the Odia Language Literature & Culture Department on Thursday.
In a bid to ensure the timely disbursement of the honorarium, the official notification has been circulated to all District Collectors and District Cultural Officers in Odisha. They have been requested to provide details of the living Padma awardees residing in their respective districts.
The notification also outlines the required documentation for processing the honorarium. This includes a certificate from the District Collector, bank account details, and the IFSC code, which must be submitted to the Directorate of the Odia Language Literature & Culture Department. The financial assistance will be transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the beneficiaries.
The Padma Awards, instituted in 1954, are among India’s highest civilian honors, recognising exceptional contributions in various fields such as art, education, science, sports, social work, public service, medicine, and literature.
With this gesture, the Odisha government aims to honor the remarkable achievements of Padma awardees by extending a monthly financial support of Rs 30,000 to all living recipients starting this January.
