Odisha Panchayat Poll Violence: Repolling Held At 36 Booths

**Bhubaneswar: ** Repolling was held at 36 booths across the State on Saturday as voting for the first phase three-tier Panchayat polls was cancelled by the State Election Commission (SEC) following interruptions and cases of violence during the elections.

As per the SEC decision, re-polling was held at 11 booths of Garadpur block in Kendrapara district, 16 booths of Mahanga block in Cuttack district, 5 booths of Dasarathpur block in Jajpur district and Booth No 4 of Purunapani in Dhenkanal district.

Similarly, repolling was also held on the day for Booth No 12 of Komana block in Nuapada district, Booth No 2 & 3 of Jaleswar block in Balasore district.
Untoward incidents of booth capturing, ballot paper tearing, ballot box torching and ballot box looting were reported that had led to cancellation of voting at those booths in the first phase Panchayat polls.

Rabindranath Sahu, Secretary, SEC, also briefed media that on February 19 repolling will be held in 4 Wards of 2 Gram Panchayats (GP) of Kantamal in Boudh district. On February 20, repolling will be held in 24 Wards of 15 GPs in seven districts. On February 21, repolling will be held in 19 Wards of 9 GPs in three districts.
