Bhubaneswar: In another step moving towards the holding of Panchayat elections in the State, the Panchayati Raj Department of the Odisha government today issued a notification declaring the final list of reservations for the post of Zilla Parishad presidents across the State.
The notification was issued as per provisions of section 8 of the Odisha Zilla Parishad Rules 1991.
As per the final list, 15 out of the 30 Zilla Parishad president posts in the State have been reserved for women candidates.
The list has been drawn up to provide reservations for all categories of women-women from backward class category, scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and general category women.
On the other hand, 15 Zilla Parishad president posts have been kept for the unreserved category.
Out of the 15 Zilla Parishad president posts reserved for women, 2 is reserved for backward class candidates, 2 for scheduled caste candidates, 5 for scheduled tribe candidates and 6 for general women category candidates.
Zilla Parishad president posts of the districts of Angul, Khordha, Nayagarh, and Sonepur have been reserved for candidates from backward class category.
Similarly, Zilla Parishad president posts in the districts of Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak and Jajpur have been reserved for scheduled caste category.
Besides, Zilla Parishad president posts in the districts of Kendrapara, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Puri, Bolangir and Sambalpur have been reserved for unreserved category candidates.
Further, Zilla Parishad president posts in Sundargarh, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Koraput, Keonjhar and Kandhamal districts have been reserved for candidates from scheduled tribes.
The Panchayati Raj Department prepared the final list for seat reservations for Zilla Parishad president posts after disposal of claims and objections following publication of the draft list on October 16.
