Bhubaneswar: The State Election Commission (SEC), Odisha, on Saturday held a high-level meeting over the present Covid-19 situation in the State ahead of the ensuing panchayat polls.
The meeting chaired by State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi was attended by Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena, ACS Health Raj Kumar Sharma, and other officials.
After the meeting, Padhi informed that the State Government gave a presentation on the Covid-19 situation. Following it, a detailed discussion was held on how to maintain security during panchayat polls and to ensure the safety of voters, political candidates, and staff participating in the polls.
The Commission will take the next steps based on the input given by the State Government, he added.
Addressing media persons, Jena said that the SEC was briefed about the present Covid-19 situation in the State. The final decision on the panchayat polls will be taken by the Commission.
