**Paradip**: Authorities of the natural, deep-water port of Paradip have suspended cargo loading and unloading activities following acute water-logging in the berths of the prohibited zone in the eastern port.
After incessant rains in the last one month, rain water completely submerged the berths causing a lot of trouble to the workers engaged in loading/unloading activities.
Thus, the authorities ordered for the suspension of the activities until further notice.
A similar situation had occurred during Cyclone Phailin in 2013 when all operations had been shut and the vessels had been cleared. Similarly in 1999, when Super Cyclone had engulfed Odisha, Paradip Port was badly hit and a lot of things had to be rebuilt.
While the incessant rains have not caused a lot of damage, the port authorities are closely watching the situation and are alert at all times, informed a senior official.
