Odisha Pays Tribute To Freedom Fighter Shaheed Laxman Nayak On Birth Anniversary

Freedom Fighter Shaheed Laxman Nayak

Bhubaneswar: Odisha today paid homage to Shaheed Laxman Nayak, the tribal hero and freedom fighter, on his birth anniversary. Wreath-laying ceremonies and commemorative events were organised at multiple locations across the state to honor his courage, patriotism, and sacrifice.

The main program was held at 9.30 am near the statue of Laxman Nayak at side gate number 1 of the Odisha Assembly. Speaker Surama Padhy and Minister for Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Labour & Employees State Insurance, Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia, led the ceremony by laying wreaths at the statue. Assembly Secretary Satyabrata Rout, Deputy Director of the Information and Public Relations Department Sucheta Priyadarshini, officials, social workers, and representatives of various organisations also paid their respects.

Earlier in the morning, similar wreath-laying ceremonies were conducted at 8 am at Adivasi Podia, Bhubaneswar, and at 8:30 am at Kalinga Hospital Square by departmental officers. Citizens and local social groups joined the events, remembering the bravery and dedication of the martyr.

Shaheed Laxman Nayak, born on November 22, 1899, in the dense forests of Tentuligumma village, Malkangiri district, played a significant role in India’s freedom struggle. Revered as a leader of the tribal community and a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi, Nayak’s selfless sacrifice and leadership continue to inspire generations of Odias.

The ceremonies highlighted his unwavering commitment to the nation, his courage in the face of adversity, and his efforts to mobilise the tribal community during the freedom movement.
