Odisha: Pilgrims & Tourists Throng Puri, Konark For Lord Jagannath’s Blessings & First Sunrise Of 2019

**Puri:** Praying for everyone’s happiness, health and prosperity, thousands of pilgrims, devotees and tourists thronged Puri and Konark to witness the first sunrise of the year from the beach and seek the Holy Trinity’s blessings for a good new start.

Devotees made a beeline in front of the 12th century shrine from early in the morning. Amidst elaborate security arrangements of 45 platoons of police force, lakhs of pilgrims chanted ‘Jai Jagannath’ and Bada Danda echoed with devotional songs.

Central Range IG Soumendra Priyadarshi appealed for tourists and devotees to cooperate with the rules and regulations that have been set for incident-free and smooth darshan of the deities. He also said that last night the people had a merry time on the sea beach with the cultural programs.

While many witnessed a serene sunrise in Puri, thousands were also seen in a jolly mood at Chandrabhaga beach clicking selfies whilst trying to fit the Sun in the background. Picnic spots too remain crowded as groups of family and friends flocked these places to unwind and relax.
