Bhubaneswar: In view of potential terror threats, the Odisha government is considering the installation of anti-drone technology at Puri Jagannath Temple in Puri as part of its measures to strengthen its safety and security.
Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan announced today that the Law Department has held discussions with Odisha Police to equip the revered 12th-century shrine with a system capable of detecting, tracking, and neutralising unauthorised or malicious drones.
“By deploying anti-drone technology at the temple, the system will be capable of detecting, tracking, and neutralising unauthorised or potentially harmful drones,” he stated.
The initiative, prompted by heightened security concerns following the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, aims to safeguard the temple amid rising tensions with Pakistan.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) will fund the anti-drone system if needed, the minister confirmed.
Additionally, Harichandan revealed that the Odisha government will extend financial support for the Rath Yatra festivals celebrated across the state. The Law Department will assist with expenses related to chariot construction and other arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of these iconic events.
