Odisha: PLGA Week Begins, Security Tightened

Malkangiri: The district police are on high alert as the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Week begins today, which the Maoists observe from December 2 to 8.

Adjoining district of Koraput has also been put on high alert fearing heavy Naxal activity which is common during this week. Frequent combing operations are being conducted.

The police too have stepped up security to avoid any untoward incidents. The locals and people representatives have been asked to not venture into deep forest without prior information to local police. Additional forces had been deployed in the Naxal-dominated villages, the police said.

During this week, the Naxals are known to aggravate their activities and undertake unsocial ventures in large scale. They also conduct programmes and urge naïve villagers to join them. They take out rallies, organise meetings and pay tributes to those who have been killed in encounters.

Apart from Odisha, the PLGA week is also being observed by the Naxals in the neighbouring states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh primarily.
