Bhubaneswar: The Police Commissionerate of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack on Sunday arrested two inter-state burglars from New Delhi in connection with a burglary that took place in the Saheed Nagar area of Bhubaneswar on July 21.
The accused have been identified as Khurshid Khan of Haryana and Mohammad Arif of Uttar Pradesh. Both were residing in Seemapuri, New Delhi, at the time of their arrest.
According to Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, the burglary occurred between 10.30 am and 11.30 am in a government quarter when the owner was away. Approximately 230 grams of gold jewellery were stolen in a “professional manner.”
Acting on digital and manual intelligence inputs, police traced the suspects to the north-east zone of Delhi. A team was dispatched, leading to the arrest of the duo. The police also recovered Rs 18 lakh in cash, believed to be the proceeds from the sale of the stolen gold.
Singh said the suspects are part of a larger gang involved in burglaries across multiple states including Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Bihar.
“After the burglary, they fled to Delhi and disposed of the gold by melting and selling it at various locations. Further investigation is ongoing to trace the full network and recover additional stolen property,” the Commissioner added.
