Baripada: Odisha Police constable Dibyaranjan Dalei has been awarded gold medal at the 12th National Vovinam Championship 2023.
The 12th National Vovinam Championship 2023 is being held in Assam under the auspices of the Vovinam Association of India.
Dalei serves as a constable with the Odisha Police and is posted in Mayurbhanj district.
Mayurbhanj SP Battula Gangadhar has congratulated Dalei for bagging the gold medal and bringing laurel for the district and the State.
Vovinam is a combination of Vietnamese traditional martial arts and wrestling.
Vovinam is practiced with and without weapons. It is based on the principle of harmony between hard and soft.
It includes training of the body as well as the mind. It uses force and reaction of the opponent.
The name is a portmanteau of Vo (V?): meaning “Martial Arts” and Vinam standing for “Vietnam”.
Vovinam includes hand, elbow, kicks, escape- and levering techniques. Both attack and defence techniques are trained, as well as forms, combat and traditional wrestling.
The wide range of techniques includes punching, kicking etc. as well as Forms, wrestling and sword.
Self-defence techniques cover defence against weaponless attacks like choking from behind and defence against attacks with knife or sword.
Vovinam was first incorporated into the Asian Indoor Games in 2009.
