Bhubaneswar: The first assembly session of the 17th Odisha Assembly, to be held on July 22, will take place under high-security arrangements.

According to reports, elaborate arrangements have been made under the supervision of DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi for the smooth conduct of the assembly session.

During the assembly session, the primary roads connecting to Vidhan Sabha will be diverted following security measures. The main roads connecting AG Chhak, Rabindra Mandap, and Master Canteen to the state legislative assembly will be diverted.

A robust three-tier security cover, consisting of 30 platoons of police force, bomb squads, dog squads, SOG jawans, and striking squads, has been deployed by the Odisha police to guard the assembly premises.

In order to control unforeseen intrusion of protestors during the assembly sessions, the areas in the Master Canteen and Lower PMG are being monitored under CCTV surveillance. The police have also strategically placed barricades to restrict unauthorised movement.

Addressing the media, DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi said, “We have deployed armed guards and morchas at all assembly gates to counter any suicidal attacks. Along with this, we have also deployed nine quick action teams and two mobile quick action teams, which will move around the assembly and confront any unforeseen intrusions.”

“We will strictly monitor access into the assembly; only those with entry passes can enter. All security arrangements are being carried out under the supervision of DCP, with a police team consisting of 50 ADCP-Inspector rank officers, 85 Sub-inspector-ASI rank officers, and 160 constables-havildar rank officials,” Sarangi said.

Adding on more he said, “Security and intelligence arrangements will be monitored by the Director of Intelligence and SP Assembly Security. More than 100 officers of different ranks will be deployed in civilian dress code to ensure security.”
