Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police has intensified its crackdown on illegal gun smuggling, possession of deadly weapons and other criminal activities across the state with the launch of a special drive titled “Operation Dharpagad”, registering multiple cases and making significant seizures over the past few days.
According to an official press note issued on Wednesday, the statewide operation involved coordinated action by police units across several districts and led to the registration of 27 cases against illegal arms smugglers. During the operation, police seized 36 illegal firearms, 71 rounds of ammunition and 62 deadly weapons, and arrested 27 persons involved in criminal activities.
The operation also targeted motorists driving under the influence of intoxicants. As part of this enforcement drive, police registered 519 cases for drunken driving and seized 211 vehicles across the state.
The special operation was launched on the directions of Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, with the objective of identifying and arresting notorious criminals, curbing the illegal circulation of firearms and weapons, and taking stringent action against anti-social elements.
The drive was carried out under the supervision of Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar, with active participation from Superintendents of Police of all districts.
The Odisha Police said such coordinated operations would continue to ensure public safety and maintain law and order in the state.
