Cuttack: The Odisha Police on Monday placed the Inspector-in-Charge of CRRI Police Station in Cuttack under suspension following his alleged involvement in a vigilance case registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
According to an office order issued on January 5, 2026, disciplinary proceedings are being contemplated against Bijaya Kumar Barik, Inspector-in-Charge of CRRI Police Station under the Urban Police District (UPD), Cuttack. The action follows his alleged involvement in Vigilance Cell Police Station Case No. 01 dated January 3, 2026, registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The suspension has been ordered in the interest of public service, invoking powers under Rule 840 of the Police Manual Rules (PMR), 1940. The order states that Barik has been placed under suspension with immediate effect.
During the period of suspension, Barik will remain under the disciplinary control of the Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar–Cuttack. As per the rules, he will be entitled to receive subsistence allowance and dearness allowance as admissible under Rule 90 of the Orissa Service Code.
The order was issued with the approval of the Director General of Police, Odisha, Y.B. Khurania.
Notably, Barik was arrested by Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Sunday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a licensed liquor vendor.
He was apprehended at Rajmahal Chhak, Bhubaneswar, and the entire bribe amount has been recovered and seized
