Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police is to ensure the safety of voters and candidates during the panchyat polls that is being held amid the Covid-19 pandemic, said DGP Sunil Bansal on Saturday.
After attending a virtual meeting chaired by State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi, the DGP informed that it was attended by all District Collectors and Superintendents of Police.
Discussion was held on how to enforce law and order, and the Model Code of Conduct and the practical difficulties to be faced during the enforcement. It is unique challenge as elections are being held during the Covid-19 pandemic, said Bansal.
He, however, said that steps have already been taken to enforce the Covid-19 protocols and ensure safety of voters and candidates. The Police is hopeful to fulfill the responsibility bestowed on them.
