In his media reactions, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “It’s hard to believe that amiable Jaitleyji has left us all so soon. He is a towering personality. Since his student days, he was involved in social work and protested for the sake of Truth. He was a big star during the Jay Prakash Movement.”

“Today we have lost a guardian, basic thinker, a member of our family. It is an irreparable loss for us. May Lord Jagannath console his bereft family members in the time of grief and bless his soul rest in peace at heavenly abode,” the senior BJP leader mourned.

When Emergency was clamped on entire country during the Congress government, he had been in jail for 19 months. Later on he joined as a leader in BJP. During Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s and Narendra Modi’s governments, he held key portfolios in their cabinets.”

He hailed, “When he was the Finance Minister, GST was enacted. Despite the opposition’s criticism, he implemented ‘One Nation One Tax’. When the opposition was creating illusion over demonetization, he created a history at that time.”

“Arun Jaitley was an unparalleled able and transparent leader. Certainly, his death has inflicted extreme loss to the BJP and the country. May Lord Jagannath bless his family at the time of grief to bear the premature death and irreparable loss,” the BJP legislator mourned.

Odisha’s former Finance Minister and senior BJD MLA Sashibhusan Behera said, “The demise of former Finance Minister is certainly saddening to me personally. Prior to being Finance Minister in Odisha, I was his colleague in Rajya Sabha. His behaviour and his presentations in Rajya Sabha during debates had impressed me.”

He praised, “As the Union Finance Minister, he had successfully implemented GST in the entire country. Especially at the GST Council meetings, he was able to make all the decisions amicably with the common nod of others despite different opinions. This proved his ability and acumen. Personally he used to maintain good rapport with all.”

“Even though he hailed from a different political party, he had praised highly Odisha’s Chief Minister. He had a non-partisan mentality. Not only it a big loss to BJP, but also to those who know him personally. He has left behind an indelible signature,” remarked the senior BJD leader.

Former Rajya Sabha member and senior BJD MLA Pratap Keshari Deb said, “Our country’s former Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley has breathed his last in AIIMS. I would like to deeply condole and express my sadness. He was an able parliamentarian. It is especially an irreparable loss to BJP. He was the party member from the very beginning. BJP has lost a strong leader and we too have lost a strong leader of our country. Pray Lord Jagannath bless his soul to rest in peace and attain salvation as well as console his bereft family members.”

He mourned, “So far my personal experience is concerned, when I was elected as a Rajya Sabha member from here (Odisha), the day I took oath in the chamber of Vice President, he (Arun Jaitley) was present there as a BJP member as well as the party’s leader in Rajya Sabha. He had shaken hand with me. He had spoken some words memorable forever.”

“He had offered tea with ‘singada’ (samosa). I had declined to take. He then remarked ‘Ab Iska Adat Dal Lo (get habituated to it). You have to have tea and samosa. Today also it rings in my head and heart. He had told me that I am a new member of Rajya Sabha. I should raise the issues of my State and be active participant. Whenever required, he had also offered me help. These were his inspiring and encouraging words on the very day of my oath-taking. During my tenure there, I had an extremely friendly relationship. He used to inspire and encourage us often saying that we are the future and we should move forward,” the senior BJD leader recounted and rued.

Odisha PCC Media Cell chief Satya Prakash Nayak condoled, “It’s extremely saddening and unfortunate news for all. Hon’ble Shri Arun Jaitley was a legal luminary of the country. He was a very good orator, very good parliamentarian and the Finance Minister for a long time. He wasn’t so aged. Hence, his premature death is sad news not only for BJP, but also for the entire political circle and general public of our country. I pray God to bless his soul with salvation and console his bereft family members.”
