Berhampur (Ganjam): Basing on an FIR lodged by the magistrate on election duty as well as the flying squad of the district police deployed with the magistrate, a police case has been registered against BJP’s MLA candidate Pitambar Acharya for misbehaving with the magistrate and police officer.

The case against the BJP candidate has been registered by Aska Police Station yesterday.

Prior to the registration of the case, a video depicting the whole deplorable episode and misdemeanor exhibited by Acharya had gone viral on social media yesterday itself.

The video shows Pitambar Acharya arguing with the police officer and the executive magistrate on election duty.

“You (police) found it to be the vehicle of a BJP man. I’m the contender of Naveen Patnaik. Naveen Patnaik is of a mere regional party while I am the candidate of a national party. While you’re flatterers of the ruling party, averse to BJP. Your intention is to block my progress in the constituency here.”

“But, you can’t. I’m a student leader of the 1980s. I was the president and secretary of BJB College, was also president of University Law College. Had stood for the president post of Vani Vihar and had lost the campus poll. I had torched a bus then. Surendra Swain was the then SP while Binay Behera was the then ASP, Prafulla Rath was the IG (Administration). Lots of cops are my friends and known to me. Now the police personnel are the sycophants of Naveen Patnaik.”

In his heated argument with the executive magistrate on election duty, the senior lawyer is heared saying, “Are you Election Commissioner? Have you checked Surya Patra’s vehicle? What is your designation? Whoever you may be, I have come here to cooperate with you. I was the standing counsel of State Election Commission for 20 years. Abhaya Rath, Sanjeev Hota, Ajit Tripathy, Rabi Senapati were the Election Commissioners of State Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies. I was their lawyer at High Court.”

“Don’t you know I’m a reputed lawyer? I’m not only of BJP. I have been sent here as a BJP candidate to defeat Naveen Patnaik. He has already got defeated. Despite your concerted efforts, you can’t save him from getting defeated. Can police or this Agriculture Officer deputed as magistrate make him (Naveen Patnaik) victorious? Why did you dare to stop my vehicle? The moment I entered Hinjili you have hurt me? Don’t act smart. I urge you not to harass me. Record all these happenings.”

Notably, the lawyer-turned-politician has been pitted against BJD supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the Hinijili assembly constituency under Aska parliamentary constituency.

On the contrary, BJP's MLA candidate for Hinjili Pitambar Acharya's reactions could not be availed despite concerted efforts till the filing of this story.
