Bhubaneswar: The agitating members of the Primary School Teachers’ Association, who are on mass leave from Wednesday, have decided to intensify their stir if their charter of demands is not fulfilled.
The primary teachers in the state are demanding the abolition of contractual appointment, inclusion of ex-cadre teachers in the elementary cadre, hike in grade pay, formulation of service cadre for Art and PET teachers, and filling up of vacancies and restoration of the old pension system.
On Tuesday, the state government urged the teachers to withdraw their strike as the government has constituted a five-member sub-committee to review the agitating teachers’ demands. The sub-committee has been told to submit its report to the inter-ministerial committee after which the government will take the final call on the demands.
Meanwhile, the state Higher Education Department convened a meeting with the principals of all the government and private colleges at the Lok Seva convention hall in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. The meeting will review the problems faced by the colleges across the state and the effectiveness of the educational curriculum.
