Bhubaneswar: Health and Family Welfare Department Minister Naba Kisore Das has urged the Centre to set up the second AIIMS of Odisha in Sundergarh district.
In a letter to Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan, Das said, for setting up the new AIIMS in the State, the infrastructure for Sundergarh medical college and hospital can be used. This project is being worked out under an MoU between State government and the NTPC.
“The construction of the project has been completed and the equipment procurement process is going on. The hospital is designed for 500 beds and the college will have 100 MBBS seats,” Das stated.
Odisha has a fully functional AllMS in Bhubaneswar which has emerged as one of the leading institutions in terms of medical education and quality health care. Western Odisha is a densely populated region and a second AllMS here will cater to the needs of the people.
The proposal of a second AIIMS in Bihar has been approved while the Centre is mulling another such project in another state. Das requested the Union Health Minister to consider the proposal of the Odisha government for a second AIIMS in Sundargarh.
