Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), in its latest weather bulletin has predicted likely formation of low pressure over north Bay of Bengal. This will result in enhance rainfall activity from August 24 till 26.
The bulletin said: A cyclonic circulation lies over Bangladesh and neighbourhood between 5.8 and 7.6 km above mean sea level, under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around 24th August.
Till tomorrow morning, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Puri and Angul.
Once the low pressure is formed, the rainfall intensity is expected to increase. Accordingly, till August 25 an Orange Warning or heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Dhenkanal. Additionally, a Yellow Warning or heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Puri, Kandhamal, and Boudh.
The Orange Warning is extended for August 26. Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Angul. Additionally, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Sundargarh, Puri, Khordha, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Balangir.
The IMD’s bulletin added that waterlogging, flash floods and even landslides in hilly areas; with possible damage to kutcha houses and informal roads. Also, fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast from August 25 to 27.
