Bhubaneswar: In response to escalating security concerns along Odisha’s 480-kilometer coastline and heightened India-Pakistan tensions, a high-level security review meeting was held at the Police Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
Chaired by the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha, the meeting included senior officials such as the Additional Director General (ADG) of Coastal Security, Arun Bothra, and the ADG of Law and Order.
The meeting focused on evaluating the state’s coastal security infrastructure, improving inter-agency collaboration, and ensuring the readiness of marine and coastal police forces. Odisha’s coastline, vulnerable to infiltration, smuggling, and natural disasters, prompted discussions on advanced surveillance, logistics, and training needs.
ADG Coastal Security Arun Bothra, addressing the media post-meeting, highlighted the deployment of enhanced drone surveillance for real-time monitoring and the alertness of marine police stations.
“All coastal protection units are on high alert, and we are coordinating closely with the Indian Navy and central intelligence agencies,” Bothra said. He also announced plans for joint patrolling exercises and the use of high-speed interceptor boats, advanced surveillance systems, and mobile patrol units along sensitive coastal areas.
The DGP emphasized a multi-agency approach, involving the Marine Police, Indian Navy, Coast Guard, and intelligence units, to create a robust security network. He commended the police forces’ efforts and urged heightened vigilance during festivals, cyclone alerts, or other critical events.
The meeting also addressed the need to upgrade marine police infrastructure, increase coastal outposts, and enhance personnel training. This strategic initiative underscores Odisha’s critical role in bolstering maritime security along India’s eastern coast.
