Bhubaneswar: In a bid to promote women empowerment, the Odisha government, in partnership with the central government, has honoured 1 lakh self-help group (SHG) members with certificate as “Lakhpati Didis” under the Lakhpati Didi programme.

The recognition was given to the SHG members for their significant contribution to women empowerment. The programme aims to support entrepreneurial women, providing them with capacity-building training, financial assistance, and market linkages.

The honour was bestowed upon the SHG members during a live broadcast event at Jalgaon, Maharashtra, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated 11 lakh new “Lakhpati Didis” by distributing certificates.

For the financial year 2024-25, a target of 16 lakh “Lakhpati Didi” has been set. The success of the programme has accelerated social and economic development and empowerment of women in Odisha and across the country.

Through the partnership of various government departments, the programme has observed an increase in the success of women’s livelihood activities, promoting women entrepreneurship and empowerment.
