Bhubaneswar: Odisha witnessed a marginal rise in the number of fresh active Covid-19 cases during the last 24 hours. While the state reported 300 cases, a decline from 329 since Wednesday, the test positivity rate (TPR) dropped to 4.2 per cent from 4.5 per cent as a result of a considerable rise in the number of testing.
The cumulative Covid-19 active cases in Odisha now stand at 4,158 with nine deaths in this new wave. The 300 fresh Covid-19 cases were detected from 7,109 samples, while they declined to 4.5 per cent from 5.14 per cent recorded on the previous day when 291 new infections were reported.
After a brief spurt in Covid-19 cases in the state, they began to drop below 400 after April 28.
In spite of the decline in infections and TPR, the number of active Covid-19 cases in Odisha is the second highest in the country after Kerala, and Maharashtra is a distant third.
Meanwhile, one patient succumbed to the infection while undergoing treatment. The victim has been identified as a 48-year-old man from Sambalpur district who was suffering from diabetes mellitus and hypertension.
A total of 511 patients recovered during the last 24 hours.
