Bhubaneswar: Odisha has registered a record number of farmers for the ongoing Kharif season, with total registrations reaching 18,50,983 as of Monday. Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra informed the development, stating that the registration process, which ends at midnight today, has already surpassed last year’s figure of 17,50,462.
“With over one lakh more farmers registering this year, we have achieved an all-time high,” the Minister said while addressing the media.
He attributed the increase to the government’s decision to ease the registration process. While e-KYC was initially mandatory to prevent exploitation by middlemen, technical issues prompted the introduction of a self-declaration system.
The registration window will remain open until midnight and officials expect the final number to rise further.
