Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 431 fresh active Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours taking the tally of patients beyond the 400 mark on Friday. The new cases were detected from 6,956 samples tested in the last 24 hours; statistics released by the state Health Department showed.
However, there was no increase in the test positivity rate (TPR) in the state and it stood at 6.1% for the second consecutive day on Friday. In all, Odisha now has 2,411 active Covid-19 cases. A total of 197 patients recovered in the last 24 hours.
Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra said, “The infection is on the rise in districts adjoining Chhattisgarh. We are keeping a close vigil on people coming from outside. This situation is likely to continue for some days.”
Odisha reported 377 and 387 fresh active infections on Wednesday and Thursday respectively after a brief drop in the number of new Covid-19 cases. The daily caseloads on Monday and Tuesday were 268 and 269 respectively.
Notably, the weekly TPR was above 10% in three districts – Sonepur (15.5%), Sundargarh (14.26%), and Sambalpur (12.67%) during April 10-16.
Meanwhile, India saw a slight dip with 11,692 new cases against 1,2591 in the last 24 hours.
