Bhubaneswar: With the detection of five new active COVID-19 cases in Odisha during the last 24 hours, the tally in the state has climbed to 13. The first COVID-19 patient in Odisha this season was identified last Saturday.
All the patients are in home isolation and suffering from mild symptoms of JN.1, a sub-variant of Omicron. According to health experts, JN.1 is not a severe variant of COVID and its symptoms are similar to those of seasonal flu.
However, the Odisha Health Department has advised people, especially the elderly and those with comorbidities, to take precautions like wearing masks and avoiding visiting crowded places. People with fever and symptoms like cold, cough, and aches have been advised to undergo tests and take prescribed medicines.
Meanwhile, 4,091 new active COVID cases were identified in India during the last 24 hours. At the same time, five patients succumbed to the viral infection across the country since Thursday. The deaths were reported from Kerala (2), Maharashtra (1), Puducherry (1), and Tamil Nadu (1).
