**Bhubaneswar:** Two robbers, who were arrested today for stealing gold ornaments from a jewellery shop in Jatni by a digging a tunnel, have become negative examples of the saying “When there is a will, there is a way”.
The shrewd robbery involved Saroj Behera (24) and one 16-year-old minor boy.
Notably on the night of July 21, the two miscreants had robbed the jewellery store ‘Gold Plaza’ by entering the premises through a tunnel that was dug via a nearby drain. The tunnel was of the dimensions 12 inch by 8 inch so that it could be used for entry of an average sized teenage boy.
While the cops had begun investigation of the case immediately, the malfunctioning of CCTV cameras had hindered their pace as it became difficult to identify the culprits.
After arduous investigation, the Commissionerate Police was able to track down Saroj and his accomplice, both residents of Rengala village in Puri.
On confessing to their crime, the two were arrested.
255 grams of gold ornaments, 2100 grams of silver ornaments and Rs 1 lakh cash was recovered from Behera’s house.
Behera had also sold some of the stolen items to Prabhat Kumar Paudar of Angul and a goldsmith named Rintua Samantrai of Cuttack, who were also arrested in connection with the case.
60 grams of gold and bronze ornaments and 630 grams of melted silver ornaments were seized from Rintua’s residence.
142 grams of gold jewellery, 35 grams of bronze ornaments and three kilograms of silver ornaments were seized from Prabhat’s house.
The two main accused have also confessed their involvement in another robbery case of Kharvel Nagar.
