Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to supply an additional 5 kg of rice to families that were missed in earlier National Food Security Act and State Food‑Security coverage.
The move, under the Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, aims to shore up food security for vulnerable households across 19 districts, covering roughly 2.4 crore beneficiaries.
The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare department has issued an order in this regard.
According to the order, the extra rice will be distributed over and above the existing 5 kg of rice already provided under the National Food Security Act, Antyodaya Anna Yojana and State Food Security Scheme.
“I am directed to communicate the district wise additional allocation of 10,57,112.70 quintals of Fortified Rice from State Pool for distribution among the NFSA and SFSS households of 19 Districts of the State i.e. Angul, Balasore, Bargarh, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri, Sambalpur & Sundergarh, for the month of September, October & November 2025, as per enclosed Annexure”, read the letter issued by the Special Secretary to Government Sridhar Nayak to all the District Collectors.
“The scale of distribution of fortified Rice shall be 5Kgs per household per month for three months under NFSA & SFSS, free of cost, over and above the Rice entitlement as per State revised allotment order No. 13028 dated 25.07.2025 under NFSA and order No. 11557 dated 07.07.2025 under SFSS”, the letter further clarified.
Meanwhile, the department has instructed all district Collectors to enforce Aadhaar‑authenticated distribution at every fair‑price shop. Dealers must use iris‑scanning devices in place of fingerprint scanners for higher accuracy, allowing exceptions only for genuine cases—elderly, differently‑abled, critically ill, and leprosy patients.
